Mildred Williams

Mildred Jean Mitchem Williams, 87, of Shawsville, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013, at her home.

She was an active member of Mountain Top Mission Church; a past member of Christiansburg Rebekah Lodge No. 78 since 1977, and served as District President. She also served as a volunteer for the Baptist Visitation Ministry from 1977-1999. After graduating from Northfork High School (The Big Orange), she and three girlfriends braved the trip to Washington, DC to work for the FBI. She retired from Kroger and later greatly enjoyed working at Wal-Mart in Christiansburg.

She was born in Coalwood, West Virginia, to the late George (Yager) and Bessie Kelley Mitchem, and grew up in Algoma Hollow, West Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Edward Williams; one brother, Clarence Mitchem; and two sisters, Marie Landreth and Beulah Lusk. She is survived by daughters, Regina Ryan (William R. Ryan), Martha Sue and Danny Smith, and Judith Ann Williams (Barry W. Linkous); grandchildren, Robert Ryan and Lauran Gray, Kelley and Brad Sutphin, John Ryan, Erin and Mike Clinginpeel, Adam Smith, Brandi Linkous and Jed Sisson, Ashley and Marques Thomas, Dana Carroll and Damon Linkous; great-grandchildren, Emma and Anna Ryan, Mitchem, Camden and Lyla Jo Sutphin, William Winfield, Kaitlin and Jamie Moore, Chloe Clinginpeel; and great-great-granddaughter, Mason Harvey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
