Alfred Smith

March 6, 1921 — April 3, 2011

SMITH, ALFRED VERNON, 90, of Christiansburg, Virginia passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 in the presence of his family at Skyline Nursing Home in Floyd, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Bell Eanes Smith and his daughter, Phyllis Smith Hall, along with several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Charlene Smith and Rodger and Mabel Smith. He is also survived by grandchildren Gene Woolwine and wife Teresa, Melissa Elliott and husband Joey, Kim Hunt and husband Cliff, S. Denene Hannon and husband Peter, Stacie Smith, Russell Smith and wife Shelia, and Cassie Winfrey and husband Cory. Also surviving are great-grandchildren: Amber Piland and husband Matt, Brandon Alderman and wife Crystal, Austin Alderman, Haley Hunt, Victoria Hunt, Clara Hunt, Madison Smith, Mikinizi Winfrey, Raven Winfrey and Kahlan Winfrey; and step-great-grandsons, Paul Davis and Brett Elliott. Alfred is also survived by his great-great grandchildren Ethan, Bryson, and Ashlyn Piland.

Alfred served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was a Deputy Sheriff for Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and retired as a Sergeant from the Town of Christiansburg Police Department. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, from 5-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 11 am at Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Buford Linkous officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Roanoke, VA
