Andrew LeGrande Mayer was born in Columbia, SC on November 22, 1967. Andy died unexpectedly over the weekend of October 22, 2016, at his home in Willis, VA.
Andy graduated from Virginia Tech in 1991 with a degree in architecture. In the decades since then he adventured around the country and the world, on cross country trips on motorcycles, trains, and other forms of travel. We are sure he walked those miles with Jesus at his side. Among the years of work, he volunteered for hurricane disaster relief in the Virgin Islands and for the Agency on Aging as an insurance counselor. During these years he stayed compassionately busy serving others when and where he was able, using the talents God imparted to him as our son, brother, uncle, and friend.
He is survived by his mother, Karen Mayer; his father, Jacob Mayer and step-mother Gail Gorman; his sister, Kristin Moore; and his nephew, Garth Fischer.
Andy is cherished for his quick wit, his brilliant service, his sincerity, intellect, compassion, and his love of photography.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Christiansburg, VA. The Rev. Paul Henrickson will be officiating. Visitation with family will follow the service. Please join us in celebrating this life.
