Ann Turner

TURNER, ANN JONES, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Montgomery County on December 29, 1927. She was preceded in death by her faithful and caring husband, Jack; parents, Rufus and Martha Elizabeth ?Lizzy? Edwards Jones; brothers, Jim, Ward, Whimpy; sister, Pearl Webb.

Survivors include, sons and daughter-in-law, Charles ?Charlie? and Cheryl Turner, Vinton; Neal and Carolyn Turner of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Stephanie, Nora and husband, Kevin Tucker, Brandon, and Terri and husband, Eddie Murray; great grandchildren, Jade and Carter; many nieces and nephews; brother, Roy and Dorothy Jones of Pilot; and sister, Ruth St.Clair, Maryville, TN; sisters-in-law, Opal Jones, Frances Jones; brother-in-law, Buster Webb, Salem.

Special thanks to her sister-in-law, Opal Jones. Opal has been such a friend and sister for so many years. She was always available to spend her time with Momma. Ann was a faithful member of St. Paul Methodist Church where she served many years a Sunday school secretary. She was a faithful contributor to their annual fund raising bizarre and a former member of the Christiansburg Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Ann has been fighting a courageous battle with cancer for the past 16 years. Her desire to defeat the disease was unmatched. Her strength and courage was and will remain an example to us all. Fighting for life was the greatest lesson she taught, never give up, never accept defeat, press on.

A special thanks to Wheatland of Christiansburg and her Special Caregivers, Lula, Melissa and Meredith; and to the staff and nurses of Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24060; or the Christiansburg Fire Department, 190 Depot Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2006 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. David Goodpasture and Rev. Brian Siegel officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The Turner Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg.
