Anne Osler Hering, 90, of Blacksburg, VA, formerly of Washington, D.C., died August 3, 2010.
She was the daughter of the late Frederic Bruce Osler and Marie Adela Osler, and sister of the late, Frederic Bruce Osler, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Scott Darby and her husband, Father Alexander L. Darby, III, of Christiansburg, and her son, Bruce Chandlee Hering and his wife Lynne Gary Hering. She is also survived by her grandchildren William Dabney Jarman, III, and his wife, Elizabeth; Frederic Alexander Jarman, and his wife Brenda; Anne Karrick Scott Deetsch, and her husband Jeffrey; Julia Scott Drummond, and her husband Michael; Vella Catharine Cagle, and her husband Charles; Scott Alexander Hering, and his wife Helene; and Blake Gary Hering; great-grandchildren Jeffrey Brooks Deetsch, Olivia Rose Jarman, Harry Burgoyne Scott (Hal) Deetsch, Rylan Alexander Hering, Graham Arthur Deetsch, and Sage Wiley Jarman; sister-in-law Lois Bonsal Osler, nephews Richard Osler, Jonathan Osler, and niece Lois Bonsal Osler.
Full of grace and poise, she was beloved by her family. A lifelong patron of the arts, especially music, she was a classical pianist, a volunteer for many years at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and also a member of an Art Guild for which she enjoyed doing research and giving several papers. She moved to Showalter in Warm Hearth Village in April, 2009. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association, the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Warm Hearth Foundation.
