BRUMFIELD, ARNOLD LEE, age 86, of Christiansburg, VA passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2008.
He was born December 2, 1921, the son of the late Marley E. and Myrtle P. Brumfield. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Linkenhoker and brother, Irvin Brumfield. Arnold was a World War II Veteran serving 3 years in a medical unit attached to a field artillery battalion. Following military service he worked for 41 years at the Salem Veterans Affairs Center and retired a recreation therapist. He continued his service as a volunteer in recreation activities for 20 years. He also served as leader of the Roanoke Road 4-H club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Imogene Graham Brumfield, three sisters, Mary B. Logan, Irene B. Phillips, and Betty B. Burke; sister-in-law, Wilma Petrey. Also surviving are two sons and their families; David and Verna B. Brumfield and their son, David Tyler Brumfield; Gary and Jennifer S. Brumfield and their family, Gary L. (Josh) Brumfield II, Shannon B. Patrick and husband, Scott, daughter, Grace Della and son Evan Scott, Bethany B. Webb and husband Christopher.
Arnold and wife Imogene battled for several years with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as deacon, church treasurer, member of board of trustees, and Sunday school teacher in the early years. Arnold and Imogene were founders of a senior group better known as the “OWLS” (Older and Wiser in the Lord’s Service) and served as leaders until health problems forced relinquishing it to son & daughter-in-law, Gary & Jennifer.
Visitation will be Friday, March 14 from 6 pm – 8 pm at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15 at 11 am at Trinity Baptist Church on North Franklin Street, conducted by Rev. Monroe Hedrick. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
