Arroy Spangler

March 27, 1913 — August 25, 2004

Arroy Sue Robertson Spangler left her family and friends to join the heavenly angels on Wednesday morning, August 25th.

Up until July 4, 2004 when Sue suffered a stroke she resided in Christiansburg, Virginia. She had enjoyed life to the fullest, spending time with her many friends at the Christiansburg Senior Center, volunteering at Montgomery Regional Hospital and attending church services at the Church of the Brethren in Christiansburg where she had been an active member for over seventy years. At age 91 she was often seen around the Town of Christiansburg driving her ?76 Chevy Impala.

Sue was born in the Falling Branch section of Montgomery County on March 27, 1913 to Reuben and Alice Robertson. Preceding her in death were her eight brothers and sisters. She was married to Kenneth Ward Spangler, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1978. One great-grandson also preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Anne Spangler Slusher and her husband Ralph C. Slusher, M.D., Altavista, VA; their children, Ralph Mark and his wife Carla Fowler Slusher; Misty Jill Slusher Hostetter, and her husband Matthew Dean Hostetter, Sr.; Ralph Kendall Slusher; their grandchildren Melissa Lee Slusher Rickmon and her husband Jessie Rickmon; Sarah Anne Slusher; Jason Covilla Slusher; John Michael Gallaher, Misty Meredith Nibecker, Andrew Lawrence Nibecker, Matthew Dean Hostetter, Jr., and Travis Dean Hostetter. Also surviving is a son, Kenneth W. Spangler, Jr. and his wife Barbara Spangler of Manassas, Virginia, their children and spouses; daughter, Darlene and husband Neil Motter; daughter, Theresa and husband David Addison; and son, Kenneth, III and wife Sharon Spangler; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her youngest son and daughter-in-law, David and Gaynelle Spangler of Pulaski, Virginia and their family; grandson, Anthony (Tony) and Kim Spangler and their children, Bradley and Shay of Willis, Virginia; daughter, Tanya Hall and her children, Brandon, Brian and Breanna of Christiansburg; stepsons, Marc and Nancy Bishop and son Jeremy of Pulaski and Brian and Kelly Bishop also of Pulaski.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 27, at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, Virginia from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. A celebration of her life service will be held at the Church of the Brethren on S. Franklin Street, Christiansburg, Virginia on Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 P. M. conducted by Pastor Michael Coleman and Rev. Donald Peters. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Following the burial a reception will be held in Fellowship Hall of the Church of The Brethren in Christiansburg for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Max Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 2763 Max Creek Road, Hiwassee, Virginia 24347.
