Arvel Louie Handy, 74, of Belmont, NC, formerly of Radford, VA, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Daris Handy; and brother, James Carson Handy.
Arvel is survived by his sons, Jason Handy and wife Natalie, Nick Handy and wife Gracie, and Rick Handy and wife Andrea, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Caitlin Hileman Handy and Marissa Handy; brothers, Hiram ‘Jeff’ Handy of Charlotte, NC, Roger Handy and wife Anna of Radford, Bobby Handy of Shawsville; sisters, JoAnn Linkous of Roanoke, Dinah Hall and husband Larry of Delaware, Wanda Handy of Delaware, Dodie Herndon of South Carolina, and Katie Handy also of Delaware; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arvel served his country in the US Army. He was a master mechanic who specialized in heavy machinery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, from 11 am to 1 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service to begin at 1 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment with full military rites will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin.
