Lloyd, Barbara Martin, 79, a lifelong resident of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011. She was born in Montgomery County on January 8, 1932 to the late Samuel Wilford and Kathleen Graham Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mark Richards Lloyd, III and a brother, Phillip Martin.

Barbara was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was very active in her community, volunteering with RSVP, CASA, Girl Scouts, and many others. She loved to travel and was even a tour guide and a travel agent for some time. She enjoyed participating in local theater and plays, and loved music and painting. She studied homeopathy, had a love for animals, and was a member of Unity of Roanoke Valley Church.

She is survived by her children, Mark Richards Lloyd, IV of Danville, Samuel Wickham Lloyd and wife Nicole of Christiansburg, and Valerie Leigh Lloyd of Christiansburg; grandchildren, William McKinley, Rachel Erin, and Allison Claire Lloyd all of Christiansburg; sister, Katherine Elizabeth (Betty) Hanbury of Christiansburg; niece, Beth Cornish; nephew, Martin Hanbury; the Heavener, the Hanbury, and the Graham families; her cats, Cotton and Ramie; and friends, Thelma, Judy, Millie, DeVere, and Florence.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County or WVTF Public Radio.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Dan Holloway.
