Bessie Katherine Worrell Stevens, 91, of Elliston, transitioned from this life to the next on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
She was born in Avondale, WV to the late Rev. George C. Worrell and Eura Spangler Worrell. She was also preceded by her husband, William Thomas Stevens; son, George Edward Hanauer; grandson, James Travis Hanauer; plus 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
She is survived by her sons, James Hanauer & wife Tina of Stafford, OK, Donald Hanauer & wife Marcelle of Christiansburg, VA; daughter-in-law, Carol Hanauer of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren, Angela Gist & husband Matt of Charlotte, NC, Donald Hanauer II of Christiansburg, Timothy Hanauer & wife Juliet of Fort Collins, CO, James Hanauer & wife Allison of Collierville, TN, Matthew Hanauer & wife Meghan of Colorado Springs, CO, Elizabeth Shirley & husband Nicholas of Denver, CO, Andrew Hanauer & wife Megan of Fort Collins, CO, and Denise Tom of Stafford, OK; great-grandchildren, Casey, Auden, Landen, Nicholas, Rowan, Lilly, and Carter; sisters, Ethel McPeak of Pilot, VA, Dorothy Keaton of Pipestem, WV, Willie Hill of Salem, VA, and Mildred Sisson of Shawsville, VA; plus numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Bessie was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was dearly loved by her family and many friends. She worked at Imperial Reading, Green Hill Packing Plant, Richfield Retirement Center, and Brookmeade Adult Care Center during her lifetime.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Richard Kingrea officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville. The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service.
