Boyd Thompson

January 23, 1939 — August 1, 2013

On Thursday, August 1, 2013, Boyd Allen Thompson, 74, of Christiansburg, went to be with his Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gratton Howard, Sr. and Nora Thompson; sisters, Kathleen Bowling, Nancy Gilmore, and Geneva Bennett. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Leona Sowers Thompson; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Theresa Thompson; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Stacy Griffin; grandchildren, Mallory and Ben Case, Staff Sergeant Nicholas and Sandy Thompson, Ethan Thompson and fiancée Samantha Price, and Alex Griffin; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ava, Braxis, and Riley; brothers, Gratton and Cora Thompson, Doug and Mary Thompson; sister, Jean Thompson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Boyd retired in 1995 after 30 years of service from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his little four-legged pal Buddy.

The family wants to say a special thank you to all the nurses and staff of the Montgomery County Fresenius (Dialysis) Center in Blacksburg and Gentiva Home Health Services for their wonderful care during the past seven years.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 4, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5th at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tina Cox and Rev. Neal Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Belmont Cemetery.
