HINES, CAROLYN YATES, age 63, of Radford, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at New River Valley Medical Center.
She was born April 2, 1944 in Beckley, West Virginia the daughter of Robert J. and Myrtle Smith Yates of Newport News, VA.
She was a graduate of Warwick High School in Newport News, VA. She started work at Radford University on January 16, 1979, where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree on May 2, 1992, Magna Cum Laude. She went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration Degree on December 20, 1997. She was a member of Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, she served as treasurer of the Higher Education Software Users Association for many years. She Taught University 100, chaired various committees and served on many others including AACRAO, SACRAO and VACRAO.
Along with her parents she is also survived by her husband, Donald G. Hines; sons, Charles E. Newman, Schenectady, NY, CPO Gerald S Newman, US Navy, Norfolk, VA, Brad D. Hines, Riner, VA William G. Hines, Radford; a granddaughter, Rachel E. Newman, Schenectady, NY; brothers, Robert J. Yates, Jr., Newport News, VA, Clarence E. Yates, Lakeland, FL.
A scholarship fund is being established in Carolyn’s name through the Radford University Foundation, P.O. Box 6915, 801 East Main Street, Radford, VA 24141-9903.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, VA. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1st, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Randy Morris with interment to follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
