Charles, “Charlie” Caldwell, age 61, of Radford went to be with the Lord on February 12th, after a long battle with multiple health issues. Anyone who knew Charlie, also knew he could light up a room with his laughter and sense of humor. He will forever be remembered for his heart, his wit, and the way he made everyone around him feel special. He was everyone’s “Uncle Charlie.”
He was born with hydrocephalus and was forced to endure several operations while he was an infant on into early childhood. At age 9, Charlie had a stroke which caused him to be partially paralyzed. Although this made everyday tasks much more difficult, you didn’t hear him complain. Many more health issues plagued him as an adult, but he persevered. No matter the pain or struggles he encountered, he always found a humorous way to make you smile. But what made Charlie truly exceptional wasn’t just his humor or his strength to persevere—it was his huge heart. He cared deeply for all of us.
Charlie is preceded in death by his father, Charles Emmett Caldwell, Sr., his mother, Patsy Ann Wilburn Caldwell, his sister, Carolyn Graves, and his sister, Phyllis “Jean” Poff. He is survived by his sister, Linda Hinkley, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 18 from 5 pm to 7 pm with a memorial service at 7 pm in the Horne chapel.
