Charles Correll

February 3, 1931 — April 13, 2008

Charles Shelburn “Charlie” Correll of Christiansburg, VA, 77, passed from this earth April 13, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital after a short illness. He had also lived in Marietta, OH and Bridgeport & Clarksburg, WV.

Born Feb. 3, 1931 in Roanoke, VA to the late Alfred Burnett “Jack” Corell and the late Juanita Sisson Corell of Shawsville. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joretta Bullough “Jo” Correll. They were married April 11, 1959 in Clarksburg, WV. She passed at home on August 24, 2004.

He is survived by his son, Carl B. Correll, Christiansburg, VA; his sister and brother-in-law Joann Corell Simms and Robert Simms, Lady Lakes, FL and his nieces and husbands: Jackie & Michael Hicks, and son, Brandon, Sterling, VA, Amy & Michael Treat, and sons, Nathan and Kevin, Italy; his sister-in-law: Joyce A. Propst, Clarksburg, WV, and his nephews and wives: Edwin G. & Denise Propst, Jr, and son, David and daughters, Michelle and Jennifer, Clarksburg, WV, Michael & Kim Propst, and sons Glenn and Jonathan, Clarksburg, WV.

He was a 1947 Graduate of Shawsville High School as well as a 1958 Graduate of Virginia Tech, B.S. in Mining Engineering. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force from Jan. 1951 to Jan. 1955, being Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sgt.

Very active in Mason’s. He was initiated an Entered Apprentice 08-09-58, passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft on 09-13-58 and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on 19-11-58, He served as Worshipful Master of Craighill Lodge No: 160 A. F. & A. M. in Elliston, VA, in 1996 and 1997, served as Secretary of Craighill Lodge from 2000 to 2004, affiliated with McDaniel Lodge No: 86 A. F. & A. M. in Christiansburg, VA as a dual member in 1996.

He retired from Consolidated Gas Transmission Corporation, Clarksburg, WV (also worked for Hope Gas, Marietta, OH & Consolidated Gas, Clarksburg, WV), continued his professional services in Christiansburg as Correll Surveying and Engineering from 1989-2001. He held Professional Engineering Licenses in Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia, also as well as Surveying Licenses in Ohio and Virginia.

Was very active in local amateur radio (Ham) he was a member of Montgomery County Moose Lodge #1270, American Legion Post 59, Montgomery County, VA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Leonard E. McCoy Post 5311, Christiansburg, VA, 40/8 of American Legion, former member of Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio (PLSO), West Virginia Association of Land Surveyors (WVALS), Virginia Association of Surveyors, Western Chapter (VAS).

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, April 17, at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Thursday, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. George Smith, Jr. officiating. Following the services it was his request to be cremated, with interment of the cremains to be in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations should be sent to Free Clinic of the NRV, 215 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg, VA or the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, PO Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068.
