Charles Carson Kempfer, 85 of Riner, passed away on May 23, 2022.
Charles retired from pastoring after 20 years and worked at the Virginia Department of Health in the office of emergency medical services for 20 years and was a veteran in the National Guard for 5 years. He returned to ministry during the last 3 years.
Charles was preceded in death by his son, Robert Carson Kempfer; and his parents, Charles O. and Bonnie S. Kempfer. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Evelyn Kempfer; sons from his first marriage, Gregory Christopher Kempfer and wife Mary Jean and their daughter, Caroline, Jeffrey Nathan Kempfer and wife Sarah and their children, Jennifer, Rachel, Holly, and Heather, Joel David Kempfer and wife Valerie and son, Robert, Sarah Underwood and her son, Key and wife Jessica, Paul Underwood Jr. and his partner, Dennis, Reese Williams and husband Jimmy and son, Logan; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Patel, Dr. McCoy, the staff of CCU of NRVMC, and his kidney doctors for their excellent care of Charles.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Auburn United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1 p.m.
