Charles Robert King, Sr., of Christiansburg, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor A. King; children, Charles King, Jr., Joe & Angi King, Donald & Alicia King, and Brenda Baker; step-children, Ralph & Kathy Johnston, John & Evonna Johnston; 2 special grandsons, Jackson Johnston and Jacob King; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Charlie and his father had a local trucking company and a local Gulf service station in Christiansburg and enjoyed many years serving the community with these businesses. Charlie served as an active member of the Christiansburg Life Saving Crew for over 20 years, having obtained his life membership with the crew in 1973. Two of those 20 years he served as Captain.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Gary McCoy and Mr. Grover Nixon officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the funeral service commencing.
