Clara Mary Simpkins Haymaker Basnight, 91, of Christiansburg and formerly of Clearwater FL, dodged the election by passing away on October 20, 2016.
She was born in Christiansburg on December 13, 1924, to the late Lawrence and Alma Payne Simpkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell Haymaker and Thomas Basnight; and son-in-law, Alan Flandreau. Clara Mary is survived by her children, Alma Louise Flandreau, Wayne Haymaker and son-in-law, David Brimer; grandchildren, Scott and Kellie Flandreau, Amy Louise Hlebak, Mary Katherine ‘Katie’ Flandreau; great-grandchildren, Kristen and Katelynn Flandreau, and Alayna Hlebak; great-great-grandchildren, Aiden and Carsen; sister, Louise Payne McKissick (Harry); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
Clara Mary moved to Florida in 1955 and fell in love with the Gulf, sun and sand. She worked for the City of Clearwater Florida as a utilities clerk until she retired.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 24, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service to begin at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
