PARKER, CURTIS LEE, age 68, of Christiansburg passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 at his home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul W. Parker and a sister, Vivian Parker. He was discharged from the USAF in 1958, then was employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company, and later by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company until his retirement. He then worked part time at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. He along with his wife owned and operated Pride & Joy Day Care Center for 11 years. They both were well known for bringing many children into their home and loving them as their own, during the years they provided foster care. He was an active member of the Christiansburg Church of Christ where he served as deacon and gave of his time as needed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bernice Blankenship Parker; his mother, Essie R. Parker; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy & Freddie Richardson, Lori & Allen Collins, Amanda and Dusty Altizer, Donna Parker, Patty Parker, and Beverly Parker all of Christiansburg; Erin Parker and fianc?, Charles Kenningham of Charlottesville, and two special "little daughters" whom he adored, Kendra and Amber Parker of the home. Sons and daughter-in-law, Mike & Lisa Parker and Frankie Parker of Christiansburg. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill & Sue Parker of Kansas City and Bobby & Lettie Parker of Christiansburg. Sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and George Hindle of Christiansburg. Grandchildren, Renee and Josh Terry, Holly & Chance Richardson, Wil, Ryan and Tia Oldham, Zackary Parker, Michael Giordano, Travis Altizer, Connie Buzzard, Anthony Parker, Mahala Wrenn; one great grandchild, Hailey White. A special friend and companion, "Buford," many nieces, nephews and special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., August 14, 2004 at the Christiansburg Church of Christ with Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by VFW Post #1184. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Jones, Dr. Alex Tan, Dr. Rotche, and all of the staff of Carilion New River Valley Medical Center for all the love and care given to Curtis and the family during his illness. Also a special thanks to Dr. Steven Bixton at UVA in Charlottesville and the Carilion New River Valley Hospice. A special thanks goes out to Art Price and the staff of the Christiansburg Recreation Center for all their care and support.
