My Big Teddy Bear, Dr. Rev. David Hurd passed away suddenly and without warning on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019 to his heavenly Father and into the land of no more pain. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Debbie Hurd , and soul mate of 40 years. Also surviving David are our two children, Jason Hurd of West Union, South Carolina, and Christina Hurd of Christiansburg, Va; two beautiful granddaughters, MirandaLynn and Madison, they were PopPop’s pride and joy; foster parents, Rev. Alan and Sue Ledford of Beckley, West Virginia and several foster brothers and sisters; two very special friends, Rev. David and Sherry Walters of Statesville, North Carolina.
He was adventurous, full of joy, full of life, and regardless of circumstances, his zest for life and his love for those he cared about always came through.
David was an ordained minister of the Wesleyan Church of the Shenandoah District with 40 years in the ministry of Pastoring. He also spent 18 years as Camp Director of Shenandoah Family Camp, in Culloden, W.Va., and also worked Kids Camp and Teen Camp for numerous years.
David also had 38 years of combined services as a School Bus Driver in W.Va and Virginia school districts.
The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 18 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Wallters, Rev. Greg Reynolds and Rev. Ricardo Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery
