Denver L. Stewart, born February 12, 1928, of Christiansburg, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
He retired from the Army in 1966 with 20 years of service, and served in the Korean War. Denver then retired from the Montgomery County Sheriffs Department with 20 years of service as an investigator.
Several years after retirement, he was a private investigator. Denver was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved repairing small engines as a hobby. He loved his special dog, Bubba, a Miniature Schnauzer.
Denver was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Georgia Stewart; brothers, Raleigh Stewart, Leland Stewart, Paul Stewart, Tommy Stewart and Harvey Stewart; and son-in-law, Keith Hodge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Antoinette Stewart; children, Shirley Hodge of Knoxville, TN, Donald (Kim) Stewart of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Sheila (Wes) Thayer, Joey (Bethany) Miles, Devan (Kenzie) Stewart, Sidney Stewart; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Matthew, Emily, and Savannah. Denver is also survived by siblings, Homer Stewart, Luther Stewart, Jimmy Stewart, Johnny (Brenda) Stewart, Zella (Claude) Harmon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is eternally grateful for the excellent care Denver received at the VA Veterans Hospital and the Carilion Radford Hospital.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 25, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Stamper officiating the service. Interment will follow the Funeral in procession to the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, where military honors will be performed.
