Dewey E. Epperly

Dewey Eli Epperly, 84, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his daughter's home in Richmond, VA. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Johnston Epperly. Also surviving are his daughter, Connie Harvey and her husband, Jim McNeil; granddaughter, Jessica Marinoble; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Isabelle, and Josiah Marinoble, all of Richmond.

Dewey is also survived by his brother, Jerry Epperly; brother-in-law, Eddie Walters; and sisters-in-law, Lois Epperly, Evelyn Sarver and Alice Simmons, all of Christiansburg; and a sister-in-law, Jenny Hylton of Bluefield, WV. Additionally, he is survived by many nieces and nephews and special friends, Drema and C.L. Bishop, of Christiansburg.

Dewey retired from Corning Glass Works in 1987. Not one to be idle, upon retirement from Corning, he demonstrated his strong work ethic through employment with the Town of Christiansburg, Shelor Automotive, and James T. Davis. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict and he served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Christiansburg Fire Department for 32 years. He deeply loved his family, his friends, his community and being outdoors to enjoy God's great creation.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at Horne's Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel immediately following the visitation with Pastor Neal Turner officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christiansburg Fire Department.
