Donald ‘Don’ Thomas Poff, 82, of Shawsville, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017. He was born on October 7, 1934, to the late Keimar and Lottis Poff. Don was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Cronk. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ila Jean Poff; children, Duane and Karen Poff, Terry and Terry Poff, Doug Poff and Traci Burke; grandchildren, Amanda Poff, Lindsey Poff, David Cook, Corey and Emilee Burke, Jade, Anastasia, and Lettie; and not to forget his faithful pug, Lu Lu.
A retired electrician, he served active duty in the US Navy, was an active member of Sowders Chapel Baptist Church. Don was a lifetime member of the Shawsville Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was a also a 50 year member of the I.B.E.W., a longtime member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, as well as a member of the local Craighill Lodge in Elliston, VA.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Sowders Chapel Baptist Church, with Pastor Lanny Belcher officiating. A private family graveside service will follow in the Poff Family Cemetery.
