Thompson, Donald Floyd, 58, of Christiansburg, passed away August 19, 2008.
Better known as Donnie to his family and friends, Donnie was an inspiration. He had overcome so much in his lifetime to get to where he was. Donnie leaves behind a lasting memory that will never fade. His love for life, his family, his truck and the Hokies will live inside everyone he left behind.
Donnie served Virginia Tech for over 20 years and also gave his years to the Army National Guard; he was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Frances W. Thompson; brother, Ronnie Thompson; and brother-in-law, David W. Broce;
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Anna Thompson; daughter and spouse, Leigh Ann and Mike Cressell; stepson, James Stuart; grandchild, Damien Cressell; sisters and spouse, Patty Broce and Connie T. and B. Clayton Goodman III; nieces, Lori Mallory and spouse, Eric, and Julie Goodman; nephew, Brian Broce and spouse, Melissa Simpkins, John Justin Broce, Andrew Goodman, great nephews, Brandon Mallory and Joshua Simpkins; great niece, Danielle Broce.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2008 at the Horne Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Horne Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
