He retired in 1991 and was involved in several organizations – Red Cross, Shawsville Lions Club, East Montgomery Education Foundation, Montgomery County Christmas Store (15 yrs) and the Shawsville Food Bank (12 yrs).
Don was always interested in helping others. He traveled with several church groups on 47 mission trips where he helped build 28 new homes and 5 new churches and repaired many others. Through the Red Cross he gave over 30 gallons of blood. He built more than 80 picnic tables for children in the family and in the community. Often, he would leave tables for families without their knowing in hopes of putting a smile on someone’s face.
Don’s greatest love and interest was his family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was always excited about telling stories of what they were doing. He loved and prayed every day and night for all of them. He prayed without ceasing and reminded us to do the same.
He will be greatly missed by everyone.
