Doris Linkous Stanger, 81, of Christiansburg, died January 26, 2015, at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Opal Linkous; and her youngest brother, Delma Linkous.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband, Harry H. Stanger of Christiansburg. Doris and Harry would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 1, 2015. In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by her brother, Marshall Linkous and his wife Vicki; a sister-in-law, Barbara Linkous; three nieces, Robin Beatty, Kristi Blake and Karri Cridlin; a great-nephew and four great-nieces.
Doris found joy in the simple things life offered. She cherished her family and friends. As an animal lover, her dogs Candy, Anna, Maggie and Mikey were a special source of happiness. She loved colorful flowers, and enjoyed planting and sharing them with her family and friends. Prior to her decline in health, Doris was an avid reader and spent time crocheting. Additionally, she treasured the time and conversations with her special friends.
Her family wishes to express their appreciation to her caretakers at Commonwealth Assisted Living at Christiansburg; the support of staff from Southern Care Hospice; the physicians who cared for her during her hospitalization, Drs. Siegel, Clark, and Beato; and her ICU nurses.
The family will hold a service to celebrate Doris’ life on Saturday, January 31, 2015, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Gary McCoy officiating. Visitation will be 10:30-11:00 a.m. with the celebratory memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad or the Montgomery County Humane Society.
