Dorothy Bond Ratcliffe of Pilot, Virginia went to sleep in Jesus, Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the age of 94.
Dorothy, the eldest of her siblings, was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 2, 1929, to William Lee and Irma (Flinchum) Bond. Her family moved when she was just a toddler to live and work on the family farm in Pilot. She met the love of her life, George Calvin Ratcliffe in 1943 and they were married in 1948. Dorothy was a career accountant for several dealerships in Christiansburg. Her longest tenure was at Highland Volkswagen, which was acquired by Shelor, where she retired. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist church for 70 years. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, camping, and sewing.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Frances Bond; brothers William Bond, Irvin Bond, Gerald Bond, and Charles Bond; and great-granddaughter Lorelei Felix. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Jerry) Willis and Calvin (Anita) Ratcliffe; grandchildren Lisa (Steven) Craig, Leslie (Brian) Tutwiler, Ashley Seymour, and Matthew Seymour; sisters Geraldine Dider and Mary Ann Sheffer; and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Dorothy’s family is planned for Friday, June 23, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm at Horne Funeral Home, 1300 N. Franklin Street Christiansburg, VA 24073. The funeral is planned for Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 3 pm, at Horne Funeral Home, with a graveside service immediately following.
