Dorothy Wilburn Ridpath, 92, of Christiansburg, formerly of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
She attended Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Stafford Drive in Christiansburg, VA. She was a member of the B-A-L-L team at Waverly Place Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA. She retired from Sears after many years of service.
She was the daughter of the late Hugh & Etta Carper Wilburn of Pearisburg, VA. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly S. Ridpath; an infant son, Everett; a grandson, Gary Rowland; a son-in-law, Henry Rowland; one sister Minnie Munsey; six brothers, Earnest, Bill, Clarence, Grady, Preston and Dexter Wilburn.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Ridpath Rowland; four grandchildren, Timothy Rowland & friend, Cheryl Anne, Keith Rowland & wife, Kim, Scott Rowland & wife, Erica, Krista Rowland Linkous & husband, Donald; nine great-grandchildren, Kellie Linkous, James Linkous, Jennifer Fitch, Cody Rowland, Kyle Rowland, Tony Rowland, Brandon Rowland, Danielle Rowland, and Jessica Rowland; eight great-great grandchildren; one brother, Bob Wilburn of Roanoke, VA; two sisters, Catherine Martin of Tampa, FL, Virginia Estep & husband, George of Tampa, FL; one granddaughter-in-law, Carolyn Rowland; a sister-in-law, Nancy Seagle & husband, Barney of Danville, VA; Adam Farmer (her computer buddy); a nephew, Bob Scuster, who was always there to help her in her home and when he couldn’t be there, he kept in touch by mail or telephone, calling several times a week; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, from 4-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home Christiansburg. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor T. Michael Bond officiating. Interment will follow at Birchlawn Cemetery, Pearisburg.
