Edgar Linkous, Jr., (87) of Riner, Virginia, departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 12, 2018 (1931-2018). During his life, Jr. worked at American Construction Inc. as a Crane Operator to support his family. Jr. enjoyed working in his garden and sharing his vegetables with family and friends. He spent many enjoyable hours working on his farm in Floyd, riding his tractor, and tending his cows and tobacco crop. He was a dedicated husband and father who helped each of his daughters build and develop their own homes. Jr. was a long-time member of Mount Elbert United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Edgar and Neail Linkous; brother, Noah Linkous; and sisters, Tootsie Linkous, Loveda Proco, Maudie Proco, Dorothy Lovern, Ida Linkous, Barbara Barker, and Dora Lovern. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Lucell Ellen Linkous, four daughters and son in-laws, Neta and Steve Byerly, Dinah and Jim Akers, Kathy and David Mitchem, and Lesia and Rob Pristas; eight grandchildren and their companions, Jon Byerly, Donnie Black and Candace Martin, Jessica and Chris Gillispie, Casey Akers, Daniel Black and Carlee Linkous, Abigail Mitchem, Tayelor Pristas, Colin Pristas; three great-grandchildren, Kaylen Byerly, London Byerly, and Ashlynne Gillispie; his sister and brother-in-law Robertine and Bob Gravely, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the New River Carilion Hospital staff (especially Diana who tended to Jr. for his last two days), Dr. Choubey, Dr. March and the Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad. God bless each of you for your kindness and personal attention.
The family will receive friends and extended family starting at 1:00pm Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Purdom officiating. A short graveside service will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Following the service, there will be light refreshments at the home of Lucell Linkous in Riner.
