Edgar “Bud” Thomas, 90, of Christiansburg, passed away on June 26, 2017.
Bud was a Fighter Plane Gunner aboard the USS Intrepid with the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Cambria Pentecostal Holiness Church and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. Bud retired from the Radford Arsenal after 37 ½ years, and operated Bud’s Gun Shop for 50 years.
He was born on September 29, 1926, to the late Luther and Betty Gearheart Thomas. Bud was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Edna Reese; son, Michael Thomas; daughters, Linda Thomas and Crickett Crouse; and great-grandson, Hayden Quesenberry. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Kathleen Linkous Thomas; son, Ricky (Lois) Thomas; daughters, Charlene (Irvin) Dowdy, Patricia (Bill) Jones, and Vicky (Jerry) Jones; grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Smith, Tami (Calvin) Hall, Cheryl (Steve) Hutchins Lorri (Jimmy) Roe, Larry Dowdy Jr., Sheri (Chuck) Parsons, Jimmy, Jeffery, and Trina Shepherd, Gary Wayne (Elizabeth) Crouse, Ashley Stroupe, Steven and Heath (Kim) Thomas, Angela (Cory) Shrewsbury, Heather Thomas and Chris Willis, Sheridan (Dakota) Sherr, Adam (Kristen), Phillip (Katelyn), and Stacey Thomas, and Julianna Lima; 39 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as special brother-in-law, Stanley Linkous.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Cambria Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Church, with Rev. Josh Graham, Rev. Jube Burk, and Rev. Jerry Shepherd officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
