Elizabeth Cromer Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia, formerly of Christiansburg, Virginia, died October 4th, 2012, at the Colonnades Nursing Home from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born Elizabeth Louise Cromer in Christiansburg, Virginia, on April 17, 1928, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie E. Cromer. She was preceded in death by one son, David Austin Jones.
Elizabeth graduated from Radford College, with honors, with a degree in Elementary Education and had a very rewarding career teaching in the Radford and Riner school systems. She left teaching to become a full-time homemaker while her husband pursued a career in the military. The couple retired to Charlottesville in 1995.
Survivors include her husband, Lt. Colonel David W. Jones, U.S. Army (Ret.); her son, Stuart Cromer Jones and his wife, Melissa H. Jones; grandson Austin B. Jones of Lynchburg, VA; her brother, Archie E. Cromer, Jr. and his wife Ruth Cromer of Christiansburg, VA.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 8 at Horne Funeral Service, 1300 N. Franklin Street in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9 in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Richard H. Horne officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will also receive friends one hour before service time.
