Ethel Irene States Garnand departed this life to be with the Lord and her loved ones who have gone before her on February 7, 2007. She was born on November 12, 1916 in Cisne, Illinois. She was the oldest child of Flossie and James States.
She met her husband Ambrose Garnand while she was working as a welder during WWII in Louisville, Kentucky. He told his children that she was the most beautiful woman at the NCO club party and that he knocked over people to get to her before someone else could ask her to dance. They were married in 1945 after his return from the war.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Ambrose, Robert her youngest son, and two of her siblings, Charles and Mary. Left to cherish her memory is her children, John Garnand, Jenny Liu and Jane Wood and her grandchildren Dan Liu, Douglas Wood and Stuart Wood. Her sisters, Lorene Tannahill, Bernetta Henson, Wreatha Liss and Ruth Smith will always have a special place in their hearts for her. Anyone who knew Irene will remember her positive attitude, selflessness, and unending ability to look on the sunny side of everything.
There will be a private memorial service where she made a loving home for her family.
The Garnand Family is being served by Horne Funeral and Cremation Service, Christiansburg.
