Eunice Radford

August 12, 1906 — January 14, 2007

RADFORD, EUNICE GOAD, age 100, of Christiansburg, left this world for her glorious eternal life in Heaven on Sunday, January 14, 2007. Miss Eunice was a friend and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her generosity, hospitality, love and kindness will remain an example to us all.

Eunice was born on August 12, 1906, to Alice and Fitzhugh Goad at their family home in Carroll County. She learned to love the outdoors as she helped her father on their farm, and was indeed a ?daddy?s girl.? She married William Arthur Radford on November 27, 1923, and their family quickly grew. Eunice was the proud mother of 12 children, and would often take in other children who needed her love and gentle spirit. Whatever someone needed, Eunice was ready to provide, from food to clothes to a listening ear. She was always ready to help a neighbor, and acted as midwife to many women in the Carroll County and Hillsville area.

After becoming a widow in 1980, Eunice began reaching out to the community through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, where she was an active volunteer for over 25 years. She so enjoyed the many friendships that she formed through RSVP, SHARE, and other programs. Her ultimate joy and pride in life, though, was her family. She loved nothing more than preparing a meal and watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gather in her home for food and fellowship. Her last message to us all is for us ?to eat, chat, dance, and celebrate,? for her life was long and full.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband William Arthur Radford, sons, Murray Radford, Elza ?Bud? Radford, and Will Radford, as well as two grandsons, Scotty Harmon and Steven Radford. Eunice?s legacy and memory will be cherished by her children and their spouses: Shade and Marie Radford; Mary Nolen and friend Lonnie Duncan; Tom and Pearl Radford; Tootsie Akers; J. R. (Bill) and Janice Radford; Sue Lewis; Wayne Radford and friend, Kathy Kelly; Penny and Paul Vest; and Ray and Gail Radford. Eunice is also survived by more than forty grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, including those granddaughters who were closest to her, Makala Vest Witten and husband, Pat; Jennifer Radford Wright and husband, Nathan; and Tracee Radford McDonald and husband, Keith. She got tremendous joy and pleasure from ?her sunshine?, great grandchildren, Delaney, Alyson and Jared Witten.

The family invites friends to visit them at Belmont Christian Church on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Belmont Christian Church in Christiansburg with Minister James T. Bayne officiating.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Belmont Christians Church Vision Fund, 2149 Dominion Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
