Frances Jean Simmons

October 12, 1930 — February 8, 2025

Blacksburg

Jean Smith Simmons, of Blacksburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Albert and Pearl Smith.

She grew up in Albuquerque and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. When her family moved to Kansas City, she met and married the sweetest boy in high school, Ronald Lee Simmons. Together they raised a son and two daughters. Ron’s career caused the young family to move several times, yet Jean’s adventurous spirit carried them from Kansas, to New Jersey, Maryland, California, Utah, Florida, and finally Virginia.

She became a realtor in 1974 and enjoyed a successful realtor broker career, specializing as a relocation director, for over 36 years. She enjoyed flying in a single engine plane with Ron across the United States. When she retired as a realtor, she continued working as a mobile notary into her 90’s. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association, and participated in the local Potpourri Club. Her sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ronald Lee Simmons, her son William Ronald Simmons, and her grandson, Nathan Aaron Carpenter.

She is survived by her two daughters, Ann Simmons (Russel Mulock) and Sharon Carpenter (Randy), 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held with her family at a later date.

Jean’s family would like to thank the Commonwealth staff for their care and support.
