Frank David Sale, Sr., 82, of Radford, VA, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at his home. Mr. Sale was born on September 21, 1929, to the late Albin & Ollie Sale.
Mr. Sale graduated from Auburn High School. He was raised a farm boy but ventured into the real estate and auctioneering business in 1952. He was a self-taught auctioneer and self-made man. He was a founding member of the Virginia Auctioneer Association and was inducted in 1998 in the Virginia Auctioneer Hall of Fame. Mr. Sale created the Sale Brothers Building Supply, Radford Auto Auction and several other enterprises during his lifetime. Mr. Sale was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Radford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Hilda Elmore Sale; and his second wife of 46 years, Vera Bishop Dulaney Sale.
Mr. Sale is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, June & Jimmy Walker of Christiansburg, VA; son & daughter-in-law, David & Karen Sale of Radford, VA; step-son, Dean Dulaney of Radford; step-daughter & son-in-law, Jan Dulaney Murphy & Warren of FL; brothers & sisters-in-law, Bob & Judy Sale and Pete & Connie Sale of Radford; 7 grandchildren, Brian Sale & Alison, Angie Sale Meier & Craig, Amanda Sale Greene & Jason, Matthew Sale & Michelle, Kelly Walker & Jamie Walker, and Alison Murphy Wickersham & Richard; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law & spouse, Gene & Nancy Bishop of Chattanooga, TN; and extended family and friends.
The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider Bethel United Methodist Church, 1060 Lovely Mount Drive, Radford, VA 24141, or to a church or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Mr. Sale’s caregivers for their love and care.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 20, 2012, from 5-8 pm at the Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 11 am at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Radford, with Preacher Bobby Lorton and Pastor T. Michael Bond officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. “Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day...everything’s going my way”.
