Franklin Sawyers

SAWYERS, FRANKLIN (Frank) DELANO, 71, of Christiansburg, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was a 20-year Veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflict. Frank was a life member of the VFW Post 5311 who served two-terms as commander, a member of the America Legion and a life member of the DAV. He was also a member of Faith Christian Church. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Edith Sawyers and brothers Donald, Joe, Edgar, William Sawyers and brother-in-law, Aubrey Jones, Jr.

Survivors include his wife Melba Jones Sawyers; mother-in-law Oueda Jones of Blacksburg; children Teresa Collins and Kenny of Pataskala, OH; Hope Shomer of Homosassa, FL; Jerry Royal and wife Bonnie of Christiansburg; grandchildren Travis and Colton Shomer of Homosassa, FL; Lauren Collins of Pataskala, OH; and Blake Royal and wife Denise; brothers & sisters-in-law, Jerry & Carol Sawyers, of Woodstock, GA; Bobby Sawyers, Nick Sawyers both of Christiansburg; Kenny & Irene Sawyers of Woodstock, GA; Howard & Donna Sawyers of Shawsville; sister, Shirley Snider of Christiansburg; brother-in-law Michael Jones and wife Rosemary; special niece, Angel White; special nephew Kevin Jones and wife Alison; grand-nephew Owen Jones?all of Christiansburg and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Saturday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 8th, 2005 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Otto Conley, Mr. Jim Bayne and Rev. Jerry Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Flowers will be appreciated, however, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to the Faith Christian Church, 1125 Roanoke Street; Christiansburg, VA 24073.
