CHILDRESS, FRED WILLIAM, ?BILLY?, age 68, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, September 19, 2005 in Radford.

Billy was the son of the late James Stuart and Lucile Rangeley Childress. He was, also, preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Lee David and brother, Robert Rangeley Childress. Billy was born August 12, 1937.

He was a graduate of Christiansburg High School and attended Bridgewater College. He became a postal carrier and was working in that capacity when he was involved in an accident, sustaining injuries that would be permanent. Billy took great delight in being designated Virginia Tech?s number one fan of basketball in March, 1981. His enthusiasm for the Hokies? football games was equally exuberant.

He is survived by a brother, James S. Jr. of San Francisco, California; a sister, Sally C. Condrey of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two nieces and two nephews.

Much gratitude is given to his caregivers at English Meadow Assisted Living, the staff of Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gentle Shepherd Hospice and his loving friends, Mrs. Sowder and her late husband.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Chuck McHose and Dr. David Goodpasture. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to English Meadow Assisted Living, Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or Gentle Shepherd Hospice. The Childress Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg.
