Fred E. Lytton

June 5, 1925 — November 21, 2016

Fred E. Lytton, 91, of Christiansburg passed away on November 21, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Harmon and Lena River Lytton; brothers, Arnold Lytton, Howard Lytton, Robert ‘Brownie’ Lytton all of Christiansburg; sisters, Ruth Leslie and Alma Scaggs of Sandford, NC. Fred is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lorene Edmonds Lytton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Jerrie Lytton of Johnson City, TN, and Ritchie and Trudy Lytton of Radford, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Jim Stoddard of Blowing Rock, NC; four grandchildren, Todd Lytton of Charlottesville, VA, Tara Lytton of Matthews, NC, Jon Lytton of Christiansburg, VA, Ben Stoddard of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Taylor Lytton, Brandon Lytton, Cody Marlowe, and Izzy Lytton. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law, Cass Plaster, Oneta ‘Puddin’ and Robert Bugg, and Peggy Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Susie Roop and Lena Harrison.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. Fred was employed by the Lynchburg Foundry in Radford where he retired in 1987.

Fred’s greatest joy was his family and children of all ages. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and golf and embraced life with a mischievous glint in his eye.

Known to many in the area as Ed, he always had a smile and a hug for anyone he came in contact with. Fred loved helping make apple butter and other activities at church and in the community when his health permitted. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church for 48 years, and a member of the Rotary and Woodmen of the World for many years as well.

Fred enjoyed working with his hands and especially small wood working projects, such as birdfeeders, birdhouses, door stops, etc.

He was a man that had strong ethics and believed if you gave your word on something you should live up to it. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him – Heaven has gained a gentle giant of a man.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 25, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service to follow at 7 p.m. in the Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
