Gene Andy Wood

Gene Andy Wood, 82, of Shawsville, Virginia, passed away on November 30, 2023. He was born on September 11, 1941, in Montgomery County, VA, to the late Charles T. Wood and Ora Gay Yopp.
Gene was a dedicated member of Cambria Pentecostal Holiness Church in Christiansburg, VA. He found joy in his faith and was known for his warm smile and sense of humor. Gene never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
In his younger years, Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding solace in the great outdoors. He was also an avid football fan, with the San Francisco 49ers being his favorite team.
Gene’s career spanned over the Lynchburg Foundry in Radford, VA, and Big Spring Mill in Elliston, VA. He dedicated himself to his work and made lasting contributions to his field.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Mary Ellen Wood; daughter, Mary Anissa Wood; son, Mike Gene Wood and significant other Renee Wells; grandson, Kevin Wood and his significant other Stella Carter, Michael Wood, Tanner Cherry, Tony Odham, Damon Wood; great-grandchildren, Makayla Wood, Jasmine Wood, Charlie Mason; sister Lilly Blankenship; sister-in-law, Edna Wood.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles T. Wood; mother, Ora Gay Yopp; brother, Arthur Wood; sister, Barbara Mills; brother-in-law, Hobert Mills; sister, Mattie McGuire.
Family will receive friends on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 2pm in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Simon Jones and Jube Burke officiating.
