George W. Dalley

August 11 1936 June 11, 2017 George W. Dalley, 80, of Christiansburg and formerly of Reaville, N.J. passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bergan and Bertha Dalley; brothers, Bergan Dalley, Jr., Arhtur Dalley, Milton Dalley. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Feather Dalley; brothers, Harold Dalley and Sherwin Dalley; nieces and nephews, Chris Dalley, Steve Dalley, Sharon Tyler, Susan Push, Diane Yuill, David Dalley, Mary Ann Dalley and Lucinda Waichulis. The youngest of six brothers, George was born on the family farm in Reaville in Hunderton County, N.J. on August 11th 1936. Graduated Hunderton Central H.S. in June 1954 and enlisted in the Air Force on August26, 1954 for training at Sampson AFB and Shaw AFB SC. He was deployed oversees November 11, 1955 stationed at Nourasseur Air Depot in Morocco and was discharged from Active Duty January 14, 1958. George came to Radford, Va. as a student in the summer of 1958 with a Westminster Club group from the University of Maryland to help rebuild the Old Brick Presbyterian Church. It was here that he met the love of his life, and his lifelong companion, Sarah Feather in June of 1959 at Union Valley Presbyterian Chapel, and they were married Nov 23rd 1962. George was appointed a USAID Advisor to Laos in 1963 and served for two years before returning to Christiansburg in 1965. His service to this community includes serving as Executive Director of New River Community Action 1963-75, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, worked with the local Democratic Party, and was employed by Pulaski County Social Services working with at risk youth. He owned and operated a book store on Grove Ave in Radford for most of his working career and continued his book business from his home after retirement. George was a lifetime member of Old Brick Presbyterian Church and was ordained a Ruling Elder in 1969. George W. Dalley served a life of service to his community, his church, and his wife. His dedication to his community and church was only second to his love and dedication to his wife Sarah. Even while he was in the hospital his focus and efforts were on her and her recovery. He is truly missed by his family and his church. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Old Brick Presbyterian Church, 406 East Rock Road, Radford, VA with Robert Morris Officiating.
