George Porterfield

PORTERFIELD, GEORGE NALLE, JR., 56, of Christiansburg passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George, Sr. and Jane Porterfield. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Porterfield; daughter and son-in-law Carrie and Jeff Neal and grandchildren, Emma and George Neal; daughter and son-in-law Katie and Adam Collins; sister and brother-in-law Letty and Dave Latta and niece and nephew Allison and John Latta; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jack and Louise Akers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Barry and Donna Akers and niece McKenzie Akers; aunts Peggy Porterfield, Sarah Eades, Millie Jo Porterfield and Nancy Oakey; and his best friend and companion, his dog Murphy.

George was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and supporting high school athletics. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and later graduated from Virginia Tech. He was an educator for more than 30 years, including the last 22 as principal at Christiansburg High School.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 at Christiansburg High School, with a graveside service following at Sunset Cemetery. Dr. Don Makin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at the Horne Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the George N.
