Stewart, George Jackson, 64, of Radford, VA, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010. He was born February 22, 1946in Montgomery County, VA to the late Clyde Wade and Lola Bond Stewart. He was also preceded in death by brother, Raymond S. Stewart; brother-in-law, Stephen Grubb; and father-in-law, Charles Jewell.
He retired after 35 years as a security guard at R.A.A.P. He loved being outside, mowing his grass, and had a great love for the ocean. He was an avid NASCAR fan and in his early years liked to drag race. He loved beautiful, fast muscle cars of which he owned a few.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Mary Jewell Stewart of Radford, VA; son, George Stewart, Jr. of Christiansburg, VA; precious grandchildren, Joshua Wade and Justin Matthew Stewart of Christiansburg, VA; sisters, Loretta Grubb, Brenda Simmons and husband Maston, Paulette Custer and husband Joe, and Vickie Taylor and husband David, all of Christiansburg, VA; brother, Paul Wade Stewart and wife Donna of Waynesville, NC; special friend David Byrd of Radford, VA; and his early morning friends at Sheetz in Fairlawn, his coffee buddies.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pulaski Sheriff’s Office Benevolent Fund, or to the Pulaski Rescue Squad (REMS), 221 Broad Street, Dublin, VA 24084.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Collins and the Rev. Bobby Sutphin officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
