Gilbert “Tom” Massie Maxwell, 88, of Christiansburg, went home to be with his Lord and his beloved wife of 60 years on Friday, August 22, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert R. and Hallie Maxwell; as well as his wife, Myrtle Wood Maxwell. He is survived by his sons, Gilbert L. Maxwell, Edward Maxwell and wife, Ellen, Randall Maxwell and fiancée, Karen Moles; daughter, Cynthia Maxwell, all of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Marty Maxwell and his wife, Christy, Justin Maxwell, Jessica Maxwell Clark and husband, Brad, Hayley Maxwell, Michael Maxwell, Kayla Maxwell, Ciara Maxwell, Catherine Maxwell, and Alexis Maxwell; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Wesley Maxwell.
Tom retired from RAAP after many years. He was co-owner of The Cycle Shack in Christiansburg and was also a retired ordained Baptist minister. The last church he pastored was Wauben Baptist Church in Salem. His favorite hobbies were woodworking, motorcycles and cars, but he also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel, with Rev. Russell Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
