Gilda McDaniel Carden

Gilda McDaniel Carden, born on July 12, 1933, passed away November 9, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rutherford Guy and Hettie Ellen McDaniel; husband, Ernest Ray Carden; and brothers, Johnny, Larry, and David McDaniel.
Gilda is survived by her sons, Michael (Kathy), Timothy (Maureen), Mark (Karen); daughter, Donna Berry (Brad); grandchildren, Heather Eschbach (Chris), Jonathan Berry, Thomas Wolfe (Gina), Nathan Carden (Stephany), Leslie Berry; great-grandchildren, Miles and Warren Eschbach, Augusta Mae Wolfe; siblings, Jimmy McDaniel, Carl McDaniel (Chong), Steve McDaniel (Kathy), Barbara John; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Gilda graduated from Shawsville High School and retired from Bell Atlantic (C & P Telephone) after 33 years. She was a member of Christiansburg Baptist Church. Gilda loved God, family, and friends. She was an avid Hokie fan and never missed a game. She loved gardening, trees, birds, The Eagles, Tom Petty, and Merle Haggard.
Gilda made the best fried chicken and biscuits. Dad passed early and Mom raised her four children by herself. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation is Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 12-1 p.m. at Christiansburg Baptist Church. Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sean Couch and Carl McDaniel officiating. A private family interment will follow.
Although Gilda loved her flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christiansburg Baptist Church, 2895 Roanoke St., Christiansburg, VA 24073.
