Harrison Linkous

August 19, 1916 — January 22, 2008

H. Lee Linkous, of Blacksburg, passed away on January 21, 2008. He was born to Jimmy and Clementine Linkous on August 19, 1916 in the community of Merrimac and spent his life there. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William T. Linkous, and Vera, his wife of 66 years. They are now together once again.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, the Reverends Barbara and Carl Early, missionaries to South Africa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam L. and Peggy Linkous and Gary and Peggy Linkous all of Blacksburg; two granddaughters and spouses, Melissa and Rob Sperka of Summerfield, North Carolina and Jennifer and Jason Scott of McCoy; two grandsons and spouses, Darrell and Donna Early of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, and Mark and Brenda Early of Gastonia, North Carolina; six great grandchildren: Ciara Early, Benjamin Early, Chase Sperka, Jordan Sperka, Skylar Scott, and Lyla Scott; one sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Ervin Harrison of Christiansburg; a sister-in-law, Hazel Linkous of Blacksburg; special nephews and niece and spouses: Leon and Diane Linkous of Riner, Donnie and Gayle Linkous of Newport, Larry and Charlotte Linkous, and Eva and Jim Woolwine, of Blacksburg. He attended the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was a former coalminer at Merrimac and McCoy; a former employee of Southern Dairies (Sealtest Foods), Christiansburg, and retired from Corning Glass Works, Christiansburg and treasured the many lasting friendships he made. He was a founding member of the Montgomery County Coal Mining Heritage Association. For anyone who prefers, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the association in his memory: CMHA, P.O. He will be remembered forever for his hard work ethic and loving heart.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 23rd. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral will be at the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, on Thursday at 1:00 pm, officiated by the Reverends Glenard Quesenberry and Jimmy Lee Price. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
