Harry R. Stone, formerly of Roanoke, passed away on June 20, 2009, in Spokane, WA, at the age of 94.

He was born in Lunenberg Co, VA, on August 18, 1914. He proudly served his country in the Army 106th Infantry in the European Theater in World War II. Harry landed on Utah Beach as part of the 1944 D-Day Invasion and served in France, Belgium and Germany before returning to the States in 1945.

He married Lucille Horne in 1946 and they lived and worked in Northern Virginia for many years. In 1971 they retired and moved to Lake James, North Carolina, where they founded Stone Realty Company. After enjoying life on Lake James for many years, Harry and Lucille again retired and moved to Roanoke, VA. In 1996 they moved to Spokane to live near their only daughter and granddaughter.

Harry was survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille H. Stone; a daughter, Linda Stone, of Spokane; a granddaughter, Tegra Stone Nuess of Seattle; a sister, Lillie Griffith of South Hill, VA.
His wife, Lucille Horne Stone, passed away on May 21, 2013, at the age of 94, also of Spokane.
She was born in Russell Co, VA, on March 12, 1919. She went to school at Lebanon, VA, and graduated from Radford College in 1940. She attended Catholic University in Washington, DC and received a degree in Library Science. Lucille worked as a librarian for 30 years in Arlington County, VA, before retiring to Lake James, and then to Roanoke.

She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Louise Horne of Christiansburg. In addition to her daughter and granddaughter, she is survived by a nephew, Rev. Richard H. “Dick” Horne and wife Pat of Christiansburg, VA; a great-niece and her husband, Dr. Heather Leveta Horne and Eric Brown of Orlando, FL; a great-nephew and family, Brian R. H. Horne and wife Amy; and their children, Quinn and Makenna, Rachel and Grace, all of Christiansburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, with Rev. Richard Horne officiating.
