Harvey Warren Kirkner, 83, of Christiansburg, died on Monday, March 26, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry E. Kirkner and Mary Ratcliffe Kirkner; two brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Louise) Kirkner; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Kirkner of Christiansburg and Dean Kirkner of Alabama; two grandsons, Jason (Stephanie) Kirkner and Paul Kirkner; two granddaughters, Caroline and Stephanie Kirkner; one step-granddaughter, Adrienne Sowers; one sister, Leona Reed Lovern (Clifford); three sisters-in-law, Julia Kirkner of Christiansburg, Willadean Kirkner of Pilot and Vivian (Elwood) Goad of Radford; and a special brother-in-law, Dave Adams of Georgia.
He retired from RAAP after 37 years of service. He was an active member of North Fork Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a longtime VFW member of Post 5311 and a member of the Masonic Lodge (McDaniel #86 AF & AM). He also served in the Air Force from 1947-1950 and participated in the Berlin Air Lift. Harvey will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 30, from 6-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Fred Brugger officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow at North Fork Cemetery in Blacksburg.
