Thompson, Hassell “Hack” Green, 98, was born November 27, 1911 left this earth to meet his heavenly father, Sunday, February 14, 2010.
Hassell retired after 22 years of service from Hercules. Storytelling was a big part of his life, sharing those stories with family and friends. He also enjoyed drawing and painting and was a member of The Belmont Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Thompson and Lura Altizer Thompson; his wife, Judith Shelton Thompson; daughters, Jean Thompson Peters and Judy Thompson Miller.
“Hack”, Daddy and Papa will be sadly missed by his surviving family, son, Lewis R. Thompson and wife, Louise, of Floyd, VA; sisters, Aileen Wade, of Christiansburg, VA and Mary Pugh, of Roanoke, VA; sister-in-law, Irene Thompson, of Christiansburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Travis, Tater, Frankie, David, Steve, Jennifer, John and step-granddaughter, Jackie; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Daddy’s life is scheduled for Thursday, February 18, 2010, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Frank Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, VA.
