Helen Slusher Parrish, 98, of Christiansburg, went to her heavenly home on August 15, 2019. She was born on January 1, 1921 to the late Henry W. Slusher and Mary Welsh Slusher.
Helen was a graduate of Christiansburg High School and was a member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church for 88 years, many of those years she was actively involved in the Church activities. She worked at the law firm of Craft and McGhee in Christiansburg from 1955 to 1997. Helen loved to read and was one of the most giving people, not only to her family and friends but also to the community and many organizations.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her children, David Parrish Sr. and Mary Lee Altizer; sister, Ruth Decker; and brother, Edward Slusher. Helen is survived by her grandchildren, Dana Partin (Hank), David Parrish Jr. (Ann Marie), Derek Altizer (Cathy); great-grandchildren, Alaina Partin, Caleb Altizer, and Hannah Altizer; and nephew, Butch I. ‘Harry’ Decker (Terri).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 1-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will begin at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, with Dr. Don Makin officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
For approximately 8 years prior to going into Warm Hearth, Helen stayed with Dana and Hank and their family. It was a blessing and a way to give back to Helen for all the love and support she had always given to her family.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Warm Hearth and Kroontje; Lewis Gale Hospital, and Good Samaritan Hospice. They all took such wonderful care of Helen.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Dr., Christiansburg, VA 24073.
