ALTIS, HERBERT WILLARD, age 80, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee and Dovey Thompson Altis; his brother, James Edward Altis. He was a retired tool and diemaker and enjoyed woodworking and gunsmithing. He was a veteran having served in the Navy during World War II.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Hazel Fralin Altis; six children, Douglas Wayne Altis (Roberta) of Agency Missouri, Louise A. Ogden (Robert) of Amherst, VA; Debbie Vaught (Larry) of Pilot, VA; Larry Altis (Shirley) of Christiansburg, VA; Lori Rodriguez (Jose) of Lynchburg, VA; Bruce Altis (Lisa) of Shawsville, VA; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Futton (Donald) of Roanoke, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Bulson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg with military graveside rites by VFW Post 1184. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Valley Fellowship Building Fund, c/o George Bulson, P. O. Box; Christiansburg, VA 24068. The Altis Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, VA (382-2612).
