Herman Rakes, 76, of Shawsville passed away January 14, 2017.
He is survived by his wife, Edean Rakes; parents, Herman C. Rakes Sr. & Merle Rakes; sons, Robert Rakes and Rebecca, and Dale Rakes; daughter, Sandra Rakes and husband Alex Snodgrass; grandchildren, Trey, Jacob and Daniel; brothers, Don and Ida, Bill and Janice, Bruce and Sally, Ron and Kitty Rakes; sisters-in-law, Frances and Buddy Poff, Martha and Danny Bishop; and special friends, Bill and David Ryan. Special thanks to Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Dr. Rotche and Good Samaritan Hospice.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastors Lanny Belcher and Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sowders Chapel Baptist Church or the Gideon’s.
